Meet Tod Oyefeso

As an Engineer at Blue Origin with a passion for aerospace, and as an athlete with a love of ice-hockey, Tod lives and breathes Kent.

Tod has been involved locally for years. He attended and graduated from the Kent-101 program, was on the Resident Advisory Group for the Kent 2044 Comprehensive Plan, currently serves on the Kent Land Use & Planning Board and is a Kent Community Foundation Board Member.

“I’m running for Kent City Council to optimize community safety, expand our human services, uplift local businesses, preserve our parks and support career and technical education for Kent youth and marginalized communities—so they can be empowered and find success in Kent’s strongest industries.”

About Tod

  • Tod Oyefeso is a proud first-generation American and the son of two Nigerian immigrants who, like many in Kent, moved to the United States in search of a better life.

While he studied for his degree in Mechanical Engineering, he worked full-time maintaining underground gas service lines and meters for a utility company and attended his classes in the evening.

He worked hard, learned skills on the job and stood out among his peers. This led him to working in Aircraft Pneumatic Testing, and eventually Spacecraft Cryogenic Testing, which he specializes in today.

  • During his time at Blue Origin, Tod volunteered with the Club for the Future to assist with efforts to bring STEM education resources to classrooms across King County.

This experience kicked off his civic engagement journey, which began when he applied for Kent 101 so he could better understand the decisions being made about his neighborhood, and to learn how he could lend his voice to creating a safer, more connected city.

After completing the program and equipped with the knowledge of how our local government operates, Tod decided he wanted to get more involved.

  • This experience helped Tod truly appreciate everything that goes into running a city, and through his involvement, he learned he had another passion: being involved through public service.

Tod then applied for and was appointed to the City of Kent Land Use & Planning Board, which he serves on today.

  • Informed by his previous lived experiences and with a desire to keep stepping up, Tod decided to run for the Kent City Council to offer his unique perspective as a STEM professional, proud former union member, and son of immigrants.

Throughout his years of involvement, Tod has felt that while the city is making progress, there is still so much more we can do to improve the lives of Kent residents, workers, visitors and small business owners.

As an engineer, solving complex problems is a part of Tod’s nature.

He’ll bring that mindset to Kent City Hall.

If elected in November, he’ll focus on optimizing public safety, expanding pathways human services, uplifting local businesses, preserving parks and supporting career and technical education for all community members.

As your councilmember, Tod offers a fresh perspective and will bring people together as the best candidate to push forward grounded solutions that benefit the entire Kent community.
